Short-Term Running Goals:

Working hard to qualify for Boston in December at the CIM in Sacramento.

Long-Term Running Goals:

After I qualify for Boston I think running will be my way to stay competitive and keep in shape, but who knows what might happen.  I have done several sprint triathlons and think about attempting an ironman a lot.  I have been a wrestler all my life as far back as  I can remeber now in my mid 40s I find running the best way to stay competitive and it is a great way to meet other people interested in many of the same things I am.

Personal:

 I am a 44 year old guy with 5 children who are all now in college except for my youngest Daughter who lives with me and started High school this year. I have a beautiful girlfriend who is 35 years old, she is totally into health and fitness and we both work in the medical field.

On this day my intention was to start out at aroung 8am but life got in the way and could not start till 11 am.  The temp. was already 90 degrees.  By the time I reached 11 miles I was completly spent. My over all average speed was a disapointing 8:55/mile.

Long run on a hot day, I really need to think about fueling my body better, seem to run out of steam at end of run even though my pace was 1:20 slower than MP.

Left the house as the sun was going down it was stil 88 degrees out and I had just finished a brutal 12 1/2 hour shift in the E.R.  the first 3 miles were at a comfortable pace and I felt great so I decided to take the last three and turn them into a type of fartlik run. Anyway I finished strong and my over all pace was 7:40 with which I was pleased with.  This was the first run in the last 2 weeks that felt good to me.

It was soooo hot today (116 degrees) and I had the day off from work but not the day off from everyday life.  I spent a large portion of the day working on my Son's pick-up changing out his water pump and did not stay up on my fluid intake.  Just as I finished with the water pump my running buddy showed up for our easy 3 mile run.  Even though it was only 3 miles at a crawl for pace I felt like crap! Got home and pounded lots of fluids and even after drinking 64 oz I was still 3 pounds under my normal weight, I think I was a little dehydrated DUH !

I almost did not run tonight due to lack of sleep and another long 12 hour shift. But I did and it felt great, my schedual called for 6 miles, but I ran 6 at 1 min. over MP, felt so good ran additional 3 at MP.

Great run this evening, several hills on gravel road in the begining then 5 miles flat on paved road.  Finished last 5 at 50 seconds slower than MP. Finishe strong with last mile 40 seconds under MP.

Great run kept a 8:34 pace, had to fight the urge to go faster felt strong at the end of run.
